Annette Groot Therapy Services
- Dedicated to Growth and Collaboration -

Meet Annette Groot, MC, RCC, MTA
Hi! My name is Annette, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), and Certified Music Therapist (MTA). I have had the pleasure of working in Terrace and surrounding area since 2016.
I believe that building a safe therapeutic space through collaboration and respect is foundational for growth and healing in therapy. I also believe in a holistic perspective which means I recognize that each person’s identity is influenced by many different parts. Each of our parts creates a unique whole that impacts who we are, how we experience the world, how we interact with the world, and how we navigate through challenges that come our way.
It is important to me that we address your reasons for coming to therapy. The agenda is yours, not mine. It may not be clear right away what your agenda is; believe it or not, this is common and something we can explore together. Perhaps you are considering counselling because you're feeling anxious, stuck, depressed, or dealing with a loss. My approach includes working with you to determine how to process a challenge, highlight your strengths, work together to develop new skills, and clarify values which I believe guide us with the situations life presents us with.
My therapy approach is largely influenced by multicultural counselling, systems theory, attachment theory, narrative therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
I am also committed to therapy practices that recognize reconciliation and work towards decolonizing the therapy space. This includes acknowledging the history of therapy practices and other systems that contribute to colonial violence. This commitment is an ongoing journey of learning, humility and gratitude where I hope to create a space that feels culturally safe.
Individual Counselling
Individual counselling sessions are offered both in person and online. In a 50 minute session my goal is to create a safe, collaborative, and confidential space for you to explore and address the reasons you have decided to come for counselling.

Music Therapy
Individual music therapy sessions are available in person for adults, as well as children and youth ages 5-18. Music therapy does not require any musical skills; the only real prerequisite is the ability to enjoy music.
The Canadian Association of Music Therapy (CAMT) defines music therapy as the use of music by a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) to support development, health, and well being (CAMT, 2020).
I tailor music therapy sessions to include your musical preferences and music experiences you are comfortable with. This may include playing instruments, listening to recorded music, or listening while I play live music.
Music can be used to express thoughts when words are hard to find, process challenging emotions, learn new skills, and much more. Common areas I address in music therapy include:
-
Processing and regulating emotions
-
Early childhood development skills such as language and social communication
-
Supporting children with neuordiviersities and other developmental differences
-
Anxiety
-
Grief and Loss
-
Palliative Care
-
Supporting adults with Alzheimers Disease and dementia

There is fluidity between the services provided and the cost is the same between services. If you're not sure whether you want music therapy, individual counselling, or a combination of both, the decision does not need to be made at your first session.
If you would like to have more information about the services provided or explore what may be the best service for you, I offer free 15 minute consultations. Please click HERE to book a consultation.
My session rates are $140 for 50 minutes. This includes individual counselling, online counselling, and individual music therapy sessions.
If you are a parent, guardian, or caregiver looking to start services for a child or youth, the first therapy session will include you (parent or guardian) and I before starting therapy services with the child or youth.
For individuals looking to get support for postpartum depression and/or anxiety, your baby is welcome. While a break may be what you need, sometimes it is hard to find childcare or make the timing work so you can be away from your little one. So long as your baby is under the age of one and they aren't mobile, they are welcome - diaper changes, breastfeeding and all!
“One does not need to have any formal knowledge of music - nor, indeed to be particularly ‘musical’ to enjoy music and to respond to it at the deepest levels. Music is part of being human, and there is no human culture in which it is not highly developed and esteemed.”
- Oliver Sacks
